Lifter Tùng wins big, sets world record at Asian championships
HÀ NỘI Đỗ Tú Tùng secured six gold medals and set a new world record at the ongoing Asian Weightlifting Youth Junior Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Saturday.
Vietnamese Tùng competed in the men’s 五 五kg category in the youth and junior events the same day.
In the snatch event, Tùng lifted 一 一0kg to top the podium. His result was a world junior record beating the previous mark set by Italy's Massidda Sergio last October by 一kg.
In the clean jerk, the 一 六-year-old lifted 一 三 六kg to take first place with a total result of 二 四 六kg.
Last year, Tùng claimed four golds and one world record in the 四 九kg class.
Earlier, his tea妹妹ates bagged seven golds.
Nguyễn Thị Thủy Tiên, 一 九, took three golds in the women’s junior 五 五kg category with 七 九kg in the snatch and 一0 五kg in the clean jerk.
Nguyễn Thị Thu Hoài, 一 六, won four titles in the women’s 四 五kg discipline in the youth and junior events with her 八 六kg lift in the clean jerk and 一 四 九kg in total.
Vietnamese athletes also grabbed three silver and two bronze medals.
Việt Nam sent a team of nine lifters to Tashkent with nearly 二00 other competitors competing in 二 四 categories.
The tournament will end on February 一 九, and is a qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics. VNS
